Furnham Adrian: The Protestant Work Ethic (London Routledge 1990)
In examining what the Protestant Work Ethic beliefs are who acquires the and when Adrian Furnham gives insights into the effects of PWE in the work place today. He also addresses the role of the work ethic in economic development the importance of work values in non-work activities and the morality of attempting to manipulate work values.
Reviewing Barclay (1972) Furnham says -

"For Barclay four themes are detectable: - our work is what we are and where we are - there is no better test of a person than the way he or she works - the test of a person is whether he or she deserves his or her pay - work should be seen as a contribution to the community as a whole. He believes that Christian ethics stress the right of a person to work a living wage and reasonable working conditions. Certainly the centrality of work in the Christian ethic is beyond doubt." Furnham also quotes Jahoda (1982) Cherrington (1980) and Oates (1971)
