Chadwick Owen:  "Tentmakers" in Francis & Francis op.cit. pp 81-90
Though Francis & Francis project Chadwick as an accurate predictor of the Church of England's post-war reaction to priests in secular employment we should note that he is himself lukewarm about the prospect and foresees major difficulties -

"The one question at the back of everyone's mind is whether priesthood is compatible with a secular occupation. There is plainly nothing against it from the the theological side; the objection is practical: if a man is a doctor and a priest will he not be a doctor first and a priest second ?  ...

No supplementary ministry can be as effective as a whole-time ministry.  Not for nothing did the presbyters of the primitive church abandon their trades and businesses. ...
... the church is not in a position where danger lies in one direction and safety in another. There is a danger on either hand in conservatism and in radicalism; and it is our business to determine which danger must be faced for the salvation of souls."
