Understand the Sacraments (London SCM Press 1991)
Beguerie & Duchesneau in discussing the role of the priest in ministry say
that the "thought pattern of most people" envisages a vertical drainpipe with
God at the top the believer at the bottom and the priest in the middle. They
present a diagram of this on p.69.
Denying the validity of that model they offer in its place an inverted funnel
with God still at the top but now the open end of the funnel is the church and
the priest is a dot at the middle of the circle.
